Doesn't it just figure that the mother wants to blame the park for the railing? Why was the mother NEGLIGENT in allowing her 3 year old to be unattended that close to that type of railing??? I think DCF needs to investigate this video and the mother's lack of providing safety for the child.

I couldn't agree more. Bad parenting should not mean blaming others for their own negligence.

Yes, mom and dad don't need to blame the state park system. They should be grateful their 'unsupervised' daughter didn't tumble further while mom was videoing the sights.

Sure the mom should have been closer, but wouldn't it be nice to know that places where families go to visit are safe. Accidents can happen so quickly and it isn't fair to put blame on the parent, I'm sure this little girl's parents would do anything to protect their children. The park should have been more responsible in building a more secure guard rail this close to a cliff and this may not have happened. I'm glad the child is okay.

Ultimate responsibility for the child's safety is that of the mother who was too busy video taping to supervise her children. There are many places that families visit that have dangers should the parents allow the children to test the forces of nature, animals, etc. Should there be a child proof gate at the shore of the ocean so that children cannot venture in without a parent opening it? How about a child proof fence around every single overlook in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park so that parents can sit back and relax and not worry about the kids tumbling over the edge. Or maybe we need fences along all the sidewalks in our neighborhoods so that unattended children will not venture into the road. Can you now see how ridiculous it is to put any responsibility on the park? I certainly hope so.
