Is It Baby or Bowels?

I'm in my 4th month, am definitely on "bump watch", still trying to squeeze myself into my normal clothes, but on some occasion, happily give in to the super sexy stretchy panel that lines the waistband of my growing inventory of maternity pants. Not only are they comfy, but needing them is also a sign that I have a healthy baby growing and is cause for joy...even if joy for now is packaged in a pair of pants that sag in the crotch and are embroidered with a convoluted pattern of pleats to mask the person that is growing inside me.

Nonetheless, this little belly of mine gives me a sense of pride. I show it to the hubby every day, and he actually looks up from his computer monitor on most of those occasions. As my belly grows, I'm bonding more and more to this little baby. I'm anxious to see the next ultrasound in a couple weeks, I want to see how big it is! If my belly and back aches are any indication, then this baby is growing fast!

There I was last week relaying my baby bump excitement to a friend of mine who let me in on a little secret they don't tell you in any of the pregnancy books...what I'm seeing in my distended belly, is not my baby, its my bowels, which have been pushed out of place. Lovely. Here, I've been thinking that I've been rubbing my belly in hopes of comforting my baby, and instead I've come to find out I've been stroking my bowels.

Happy Mothers Day to me, I guess. I'm the proud parent of displaced intestines.
